Helping those in need during the holiday season means more than providing food and toys—it also means offering emotional support during a time that can feel overwhelming. For families struggling just to put food on the table, the holidays often bring added stress instead of joy.
Holiday Hope is a small nonprofit with a powerful message: Quality over Quantity. We focus on meaningful, personalized support that restores dignity, warmth, and hope to families who need it most.

Not everyone is in the same situation, and life can change quickly. Those who are down on their luck or facing hard times are still the same strong, capable people they were when things were going well. Struggling does not make anyone bad—it simply means they need support.
At Holiday Hope PDX, we never judge, and we never shame anyone for needing help. We believe in dignity, compassion, and meeting people exactly where they are. Everyone deserves kindness, especially during the holidays.
Holiday Meals
Food Assistance Through Gift Cards
Holiday Hope provides gift cards to local grocery stores so families can purchase the foods they enjoy and need for their holiday meals. This change began during Covid, and it quickly became one of the most appreciated updates to our program. Families love having the freedom to choose their own ingredients, especially those managing food allergies or dietary restrictions.
Offering gift cards also protects our clients from receiving pre‑packed food baskets that might contain items capable of causing severe allergic reactions. Because of the overwhelming number of requests to continue this approach, Holiday Hope made gift cards a permanent part of our holiday meals program in 2024.
This simple change ensures dignity, safety, and choice for every family we serve.
Adopting a Family
Adopt‑A‑Family: A Meaningful Way to Give Back
The Adopt‑A‑Family program is a wonderful opportunity for churches, businesses, community groups, and clubs to come together and support a family during the holidays. Participants can provide a holiday meal, toys for the children, and any additional gifts they feel inspired to give.
Adopters receive information about the family and their specific needs, allowing them to offer thoughtful, personalized support. Many who have participated in this program have even formed lifelong friendships with the families they helped.
This experience is truly heartwarming—for both the giver and the recipient. The Adopt‑A‑Family program continues to be one of Holiday Hope’s most successful and cherished initiatives, bringing joy, dignity, and connection to our community each holiday season.
Toys for Children
Toy Support Through Gift Cards
Holiday Hope provides gift cards to families so they can purchase toys for their children—bringing joy, choice, and dignity to the holiday season. This approach helps families get into the holiday spirit, creates meaningful moments together, and brings a warm sense of connection during a time that can otherwise feel stressful.
In 2024, we received an overwhelming number of requests to continue offering gift cards as the primary way for families to receive toys. Parents shared how much this eased their stress, supported their mental well‑being, and allowed them to choose gifts that truly fit their children’s needs and interests. The joy and relief this brought to families made it clear that this method should remain a permanent part of our program.
For the KGW Toy Drive items we receive, those toys are distributed to specific groups that request them each year, ensuring they reach families who benefit most.
